MOD X is an abstract strategy game from Cryptozoic. In it, up to four players take turns placing plastic Xs on the board, trying to create specific scoring patterns. Making strategic use of the joker pieces, blocking others from scoring, and trying to prevent your point markers from getting covered by your opponents all help make Mod X feel like a serious upgrade to games like Connect 4 and Checkers. While being easy enough for kids to learn and enjoy, Mod X offers some chess-level strategy and its replayability feels pretty much endless!

In Rise of Augustus players race to complete "objective" cards in order to gain special powers and ultimately to claim victory points. In similar fashion to Bingo, tokens are randomly drawn from a bag and players place their meeple "legionnaires" on corresponding symbols. When all of their symbols are covered they declare "Ave Caesar." Choosing which objective cards to complete and building your set add a nice layer of strategy to this simple and enjoyable game.
